At this point, C is thermodynamically capable of reducing ZnO to Zn. Since this temperature is greater than the boiling point of Zn (907ºC), it will be formed as a vapour. The overall equation for reduction is, ZnO(s) + C(s) ⎯→ Zn(g) + CO(g).
