Both statement I and statement II are incorrect.
Griffith's experiment was the first experiment which suggested that bacteria can transfer genetic information through a process called transformation. He concluded that the R-strain bacteria had some how been transformed by the heat-killed S-strain bacteria. Some transforming molecule transferred from the heat-killed S-strain, had enabled the 
-strain to synthesise a smooth polysaccharide coat and become virulent.
Avery, MacLeod and McCarty worked to determine the biochemical nature of transforming molecule in Griffith's experiment. They purified biochemicals from the head killed 
cells to see which one could transform live R-cell into S-cells.
