Go through the following statements about the chemiosmotic mechanism:
(I) Protons are pumped across the membrane.
(II) Protons returns through the membrane by way of a channel protein.
(III) ATP is required for protons to return
(IV)
decreases in the lumen of chloroplast
(V) Proton pumping is associated with the production of ATP

Chemiosmosis requires a membrane, a proton pump, a proton gradient and ATP synthase. Energy is used to pump protons across a membrane to create a gradient or a high concentration of protons within the thylakoid lumen. ATP synthase has a channel that allows diffusion of protons back across the membrane, this releases enough energy to activate ATP synthase that catalyses the formation of ATP. Therefore ATP is not required for proton to return.
