Which of the following orders is correct for the stability of carbocations given below?
I.
II.
III.
Text Solution
Verified by ExpertsC
The carbocation
is maximum stabilised by Mesomeric effect.

Effective
overlap occurs between vacant
orbital of carbocation & 2 p orbital of N containing the lone pair and in all cases +I effect and Hyperconjugation is same. In option a, mesomeric effect does occur but positive charge rests more on electronegative atom i.e. O which decreases the extent of stabilisation. In option , there is no resonance. Rather, O exerts - I effect and destablilises the carbocation.
