Tracheids possess thick lignified walls and inner layers of cell walls with thickenings that vary in form. Xylem fibres have highly thickened walls and obliterated central lumens. Phloem parenchyma is made up of elongated, tapering cylindrical cells which have dense cytoplasm and nucleus.
