(i) In the naming of a complex ion, name of ligands are written first in alphabetical order and after that, name of central metal ion is written with its oxidation state in Roman numeral in the parenthesis after the name of the metal.
(ii) If the complex compound contains more than one same type of ligands then prefix bi, tri, tetra, etc. are used.
(iii) If the name of ligand already contains bi, tri etc. Then bis, tris, tetrakis are used.
(iv) If the complex ion is a cation, the metal is named same as the element.
(v) If the complex ion is an anion, the name of the metal ends with the suffix "-ate".
