The condition for two diameters of the hyperbola
represented by Ax 2 + 2Hxy + By 2 = 0 to be conjugate is
Text Solution
Verified by ExpertsThe correct answer is:
C
Let the two diameters represented by Ax 2 + 2Hxy + By 2 = 0.
be y = mx and y = m'x.
The two diameters are conjugate,
∴ ∴ mm' =
... (1)
Also m, m' are the roots of Bm 2 + 2Hm + A = 0
∴ ∴ mm' = A/B ... (2)
From (1) and (2),
or Aa 2 = Bb 2 which is the required condition.
