A ray emanating from the point ( − 4, 0) is incident on the ellipse 9x² + 25y² = 225 at the point P with abscissa 3. Find the equation of the reflected ray after first reflection.

CHECK THE SOLUTION.

12 x + 5 y = 48; 12 x − 5 y = 48

Sol. = 1 reflected ray thus will be line joining & (4, 0)

⇒ y – 0 = (x – 4)

5y = – 12x + 48

or line joining the points & (4, 0)

y – 0 = (x – 4) ⇒ 12x – 5y – 48 = 0
