A circle has the same centre as an ellipse & passes through the focii F 1 & F 2 of the ellipse, such that the two curves intersect at 4 points. Let 'P' be any one of their points of intersection. If the major axis of the ellipse is 17 & the area of the triangle PF 1 F 2 is 30, then the distance between the focii is :
Text Solution
Verified by ExpertsThe correct answer is:
13
(13)
Sol. PF 1 + PF 2 = 17 ⇒
PF 1 · PF 2 = 30
(F 1 F 2 ) 2 = PF 12 + PF 22 = 289 – 120 = 169 ⇒ F 1 F 2 = 13
