The number of value of x satisfying the equation ⏐ x − 1 ⏐ A = (x − 1) 7 , where A = log 3 x² − 2 log x 9
Text Solution
Verified by ExpertsThe correct answer is:
B
|x – 1| A = (x – 1) 7
case (i) x – 1 = 1 ⇒ x = 2
case (ii) log 3 x 2 – 2 log x 9 = 7 ⇒ 2 log 3 x – 4 log x 3 = 7
let log 3 x = y
∴ 2y –
= 7 ⇒ 2y 2 – 7y – 4 = 0 ⇒ (2y + 1) (y – 4) = 0
⇒ y = –
& y = 4
⇒ log 3 x = –
⇒ log 3 x = 4
x = 3 –1/2 ⇒ x = 81
= for x =
x – 1 < 0
∴ not acceptable
∴ x = 2 or 81.
