The sum of infinite number of terms of a G.P. is 4 and the sum of their cubes is 192. Find the series.
Text Solution
Verified by ExpertsThe correct answer is:
CHECK THE SOLUTION.
(6, –3, 3/2, ......)
Sol.
= 4 ⇒
= 192 ⇒
=
⇒
= 3
⇒ 1 + r 2 – 2r = 3 + 3r + 3r 2 ⇒ 2r 2 + 5r + 2= 0 ⇒ (2r + 1) (r + 2) = 0
r = –1/2, r = –2(rejected) When r = –1/2 , a = 6 so series is 6, –3, 3/2 .....
