A mass of neuromuscular tissue called the sinoatrial node (SAN) is found in the wall of the right atrium near the opening of the superior vena cava (upper right corner of the right atrium). Another mass of neuromuscular tissue called the atrioventricular node (AVN) is found in the lower left corner of the right atrium between the right atrium and left ventricle at the junction of the interatrial and interventricular septum.
