A reporter gene is a gene whose product can be easily detected or measured. It is used to study gene expression and identify transformed cells.

Incorrect – In reporter gene assays, the reporter gene is fused downstream of the promoter/regulatory region of the gene being studied. The cloned gene is not the reporter gene.
