SCID (Severe Combined Immunodeficiency) is a genetic disorder (ADA deficiency). A complete and permanent cure requires correction of the defect at the earliest developmental stage, so that all cells inherit the functional gene.

• Gene therapy in adults → partial/temporary correction

• Bone marrow transplant / enzyme replacement → supportive, not permanent genetic correction

• Embryonic gene therapy → corrects the defect in all cells from the beginning → curative
