ICBN stands for the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. It is a globally recognized set of rules and recommendations designed to provide a stable and uniform system for the scientific naming of plants. Its primary goal is to ensure that every taxonomic group of plants has only one unique, correct name that is accepted worldwide, thereby avoiding confusion caused by local or multiple common names. In 2011, the name was officially updated to the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN) during the 18th International Botanical Congress in Melbourne.
