Coenocytic hyphae are long, continuous, and branched tubes that lack septa (cross-walls).

Because they lack these internal partitions, they consist of a shared mass of multinucleated cytoplasm.

This structure results from repeated nuclear divisions occurring without the division of the cytoplasm (cytokinesis).Such hyphae are characteristic of lower fungi, such as those in the class Phycomycetes (e.g., Rhizopus and Mucor)
