• Vector for Transformation: Scientists exploit this natural mechanism by replacing the disease-causing genes in the T-DNA with desired foreign genes. This makes it an essential vector for creating transgenic plants with traits like pest resistance, herbicide tolerance, or improved nutritional value.

• Crown Gall Disease: In nature, this bacterium causes crown gall disease (tumorous growths) at the stem-root interface of plants, but in genetic engineering, "disarmed" versions are used that do not cause tumors.
