Two nucleotides are linked through phosphodiester linkage to form a dinucleotide. More nucleotides can be joined in such manner to form polynucleotide chain. A polymer thus formed has at one end a free phosphate moiety at end of sugar, which is referred to as of polynucleotide chain. Similarly at the other end of the polymer the sugar has a free OH of group which is referred to as of -end of the polynuclcotide chain. So, if we remove the OH group from end then further polymerization will not occur.
