Formation of conidia: Conidia are non-motile asexual spores produced exogenously on specialized hyphae called conidiophores. They are meant for rapid propagation and do not involve nuclear fusion or meiosis.

Formation of dikaryon: In higher fungi (Ascomycetes and Basidiomycetes), plasmogamy is not immediately followed by karyogamy, leading to an intervening stage with two nuclei per cell (n+n). This dikaryotic stage is a characteristic part of their sexual cycle.

Fusion of nuclei: Known as karyogamy, this is the essential step in the sexual cycle where two haploid nuclei fuse to form a diploid zygote.

Meiosis in zygote: After karyogamy, the diploid zygote undergoes meiosis to produce haploid spores, restoring the haploid state of the fungal life cycle.
