If we consider a big tree as the primary producer (PP) and count the number of insects feeding on it, the pyramid of numbers will be inverted at the base, because a single tree supports a large number of insects.

If we add small birds that feed on these insects, the next trophic level will have fewer individuals than the insects, forming a conventional decrease in number at higher levels. Finally, if we include larger birds that prey on the smaller birds, their numbers will be even fewer, continuing the decreasing trend in the pyramid.
