Plants absorb iron mostly in the form of ferric (Fe 34 ) ions (as per NCERT). However, plants in the acidic soil can absorb iron in ferrous (Fe 2+ ] as well as ferric (Fe 3+ ) form. Iron is reversibly oxidised from Fe 24 to Fe 34 during electron transfer.
