A sugar syrup of weight 214.2 g contains 34.2 g of sugar (C12H22O11) Calculate (i) molal concentration and (ii) mole-fraction of sugar in the syrup.

CHECK THE SOLUTION
Given, weight of sugar syrup = 214.2 g
weight of sugar (C 12 H 22 O 11 ) in sugar syrup
= 34.2 g
∴ wt. of solvent (water) = 214.2 – 34.2 = 180.0 g
(i) ∴ Molal conc. (molality)



(ii) Mole-fraction of sugar


= 0.0099
