The concentration of solutions can be expressed in number of ways such that Normality, Molarity,

Molality, Mole fractions, Strength, % by weight, % by

volume and % by strength. The molarity of ionic

compound is usually expressed as formality because we

use formula weight of ionic compound. Addition of

water to a solution changes all these terms, however

increase in temperature does not change molality, mole

fraction and % by weight terms.

The correct answer is:
CHECK THE SOLUTION.

(i)

Sol. Meq. of dil. NaOH = Meq. of conc. NaOH

0.2 × V = 0.5 0 × 100

∴ V = 250 mL

∴ H 2 O needed = 250 – 100 = 150 mL

(ii)

Sol. Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 + BaCl 2 → BaSO 4 ↓ + AlCl 3

Meq. at 20×0.2×6 20×0.6×2 0 0

t = 0 = 24 = 24 0 0

Meq. after 0 0 24 24

Reaction

∴ [Al 3+ ] = = 0.6 N

[Cl – ] = = 0.6 N

(iii)

Sol. N NaCl =

Let w g of BaCl 2 is dissolved in 250 mL then

= = 0.0385 w

∴ [Cl – ] in both is same.

∴ N NaCl =

∴ 0.646 = 0.0385 w

∴ w = 16.80 g
