What will be the order of reaction given below ?
NH 4 CNO ⎯→ NH 2 CONH 2
The reaction is completed in three steps as :
(i) NH 4 CNO
NH 4 NCO (fast equilibrium)
(ii) NH 4 NCO
NH 3 + H–N=C=O (fast equilibrium) (iii) NH 3 + H–N=C=O ⎯→ NH 2 CONH 2 (slow)
Text Solution

CHECK THE SOLUTION.
Sol. The rate of formation of urea is given by eq. (iii)
…..
By step (ii) we have :
…..
By step (i) we have :
..…
∴ By eqs. and
[NH 3 ] [HNCO] =
..…
∴ By eqs. and

= K' [NH 4 CNO]
