The concept of resonance explain various properties of compounds. The molecules with conjugated systems of π bonds are stabilised by resonance and have low heat of hydrogenation. Hyper conjugative stabilisation also decreases heat of hydrogenation. In aromatic rings a functional group with a lone pair exerts +M effect.
(i) The correct order of heat of hydrogenation –
(p) 1,3-pentadiene
(q) 1,3-butadiene
(r) 2, 3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene
(s) propadiene
