Sol. Ethyl alcohol first reacts with sulphuric acid to form ethyl hydrogen sulphate which readily loses a molecule of sulphuric acid when heated with concentrated sulphuric acid at 1700C to form ethylene.

When sodium chloride is dissolved in water it reduces the polarity of water and the space between

water molecules are occupied by sodium and chloride ions with the result the solubility of the organic

compound is reduced.
