NH 4 Cl — → NH 4+ + Cl –
Common ion effect of NH 4+ supresses the dissociation of NH 4 OH. Thus low concentration of OH – is obtained which is just sufficient to exceed the K sp of Fe(OH) 3 (as K sp of Fe(OH) 3 ) is less than Cr(OH) 3 .
