Aldehydes are more reactive towards nucleophilic addition reactions than ketones because of inductive effect and steric effect. Greater the number of alkyl groups attached to the carbonyl group, greater the electron density on carbonyl carbon. Thus, it lowers the attack of nucleophile and hence, reactivity decreases. Due to steric hindrance, the attack of nucleophile on carbonyl group becomes more difficult.
