The Haber's process can be represented by the following scheme :

Identify A, B, C, D and E.
Text Solution
Verified by ExpertsA
A = Ca(OH) 2 , B = NH 4 HCO 3 , C = Na 2 CO 3 , D = NH 4 Cl, E = CaCl 2
In the manufacture of sodium carbonate by ammonia - soda process following reactions are involved.
: Ca(OH) 2 CaO + H 2 O ⎯→ Ca(OH) 2
: NH 4 HCO 3 NH 3 + H 2 O + CO 2 ⎯→ NH 4 HCO 3
: Na 2 CO 3 2NaHCO 3 ⎯→ Na 2 CO 3 + H 2 O + CO 2
: NH 4 Cl NH 4 HCO 3 + NaCl ⎯→ NaHCO 3 + NH 4 Cl
(E) : CaCl 2 2NH 4 Cl + Ca(OH) 2 ⎯→ 2NH 3 + 2H 2 O + CaCl 2
(E)
So, A = Ca(OH) 2 , B = NH 4 HCO 3 , C = Na 2 CO 3 , D = NH 4 Cl, E = CaCl 2
