2K + (aq) + 2Cr 3+ (aq) + 4SO 4 2–
So chrome alum is a double salt. It when dissolved in water gives its constituent ions. Hence it gives the test of K + , Cr 3+ and SO 4 2– ions.
CuSO 4 .4NH 3 [Cu(NH 3 ) 4 ] SO 4
[Cu(NH 3 ) 4 ] 2+ (aq) + SO 4 2– (aq)
As copper (II) is present in coordination sphere it will not give the test of Cu 2+ ion.
