Sol. Domain x – 1 > 0 and x + 1 > 0 and y – x > 0
x > 1 x > – 1 x < 7
⇒ x ∈ (1, 7) .........(i)
– log 2 (x – 1) – log 2 (x + 1) = 1 + 
– log 2 (x 2 – 1) + log 2 (7 – x) 2 = 1 ; log 2
= 1 ⇒
= 2
⇒ x 2 + 14x – 51 = 0 ; (x + 17) (x – 3) = 0
x = 3 or x = – 17 (rejected ) ; x = 3
