The Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) regulates involuntary functions such as heart rate, digestion, respiratory rate, pupillary response, urination, and sexual arousal. It is not primarily responsible for initiating voluntary muscle movements. The Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) transmits signals between the CNS and the rest of the body, including both voluntary and involuntary functions. It plays more than a minimal role in recovery.
