The term volume strength is used to express strength of H 2 O 2 . The strength of ‘XV’ means 1V H 2 O 2 on decomposition gives X volume of O 2 at STP. In other words, 1 L of ‘XV’ H 2 O 2 produces X L of O 2 at STP. H 2 O 2 (aq.) decompose to H 2 O 2 ( λ ) and O 2 (g).
(i) The percentage strength (w/v) of "11.2 V" H 2 O 2 will be –

(i)
Sol. w/v represent mass of H 2 O 2 present in 100 ml.
M =
= 1
∴ 34 g H 2 O 2 present in 1 L.
∴ In 100 ml mass of H 2 O 2 = 3.4 g.
(ii)
Sol. milli equ. of Ba(Mno 4 ) 2 = milli equ. of H 2 O 2
∴
× 10 × 1000 = 3 × 125 × 2
∴ w = 28.125
∴ % purity =
× 100 = 70.31
(iii)
Sol. milli equ. of H 2 O 2 = milli equ. of KMnO 4
∴ 20 × N = 0.05 × 5 × 80
∴ N = 1
Normality of H 2 O =
∴ Vol. strength H 2 O 2 = 5.6
