(i) The half reaction for oxidation is,

H 2 C 2 O 4 CO 2

Balancing carbon atoms on both sides, H 2 C 2 O 4 2CO 2

Balancing hydrogen atoms on both sides, H 2 C 2 O 4 2CO 2 + 2H +

Balancing the charge on both sides,

H 2 C 2 O 4 2CO 2 + 2H + + 2e - ...(i)

(ii) The half reaction for reduction is- H 2 O 2 H 2 O

Balancing oxygen atoms on both sides, H 2 O 2 2H 2 O

Balancing hydrogen atoms, H 2 O 2 + 2H + 2H 2 O

Balancing the charge,

H 2 O 2 + 2H + + 2e - 2H 2 O ...(ii)

Now, adding both equations, H 2 C 2 O 4 + H 2 O 2 2CO 2 + 2H 2 O

This is balanced equation so x, y, z are 1,2,2 respectively.
