3F 2 (g) + 3H 2 O(l) ⎯→ 6 H + (aq.) + 6F – (aq.) + O 3 (g)
Cl 2 , on the other hand, reacts with H 2 O to form hydrochloric acid and hypochlorous acid to a small extent.
