SO 2 Cl 2 is formed from H 2 SO 4 by treating with excess of phosphorus pentachloride.
H 2 SO 4 + 2PCl 5 ⎯→ SO 2 Cl 2 + 2HCl + 2POCl 3
SO 3 is obtained from sulphuric acid by dehydration with phosphorus pentachloride.
2H 2 SO 4 + P 4 O 10 ⎯→ 4HPO 3 + 2SO 3
SO 2 is obtained from conc. H 2 SO 4 , when heated with copper metal.
2H 2 SO 4 (conc.) + Cu ⎯→ CUSO 4 + 2H 2 O + 2SO 2
