In gel electrophoresis, negatively charged DNA fragments move towards the positive electrode, anode. The DNA fragments separate (resolve) according to their size through the sieving effect provided by the agarose gel. Smaller fragments travel faster and farther through the gel. Therefore, the order from the cathode to the anode based on size would be the largest 8 kb from Well 4 , followed by 6 kb Well 2 then the smallest 2 kb from Well 3 .
