BITSAT 2025: Overview

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, designated as an Institution of Eminence by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, is one of India's leading institutions of higher education and is defined as a University. It is a prestigious Institute that offers a long tradition, an excellent campus, and a network of distinguished alumni in leadership positions globally. BITS Pilani represents a strong commitment to excellence in education, merit, transparency, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has designated BITS Pilani as the only private Institution to create a Technology Innovation Hub under the Bio-CPS (Biological Cyber-Physical Systems) vertical with a financial grant-in-aid of ₹125 crore.

All Integrated First Degree (FD) programmes at the Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa, and Hyderabad campuses of BITS Pilani will be based on an online computer-based test conducted by BITS Pilani. The test is called the BITS Admissions Test; we will use the acronym BITSAT in this document. BITSAT is a highly competitive entrance exam for admission into the Institute’s premier undergraduate programmes in Engineering, Sciences, and Pharmacy. The online exam will be held on the Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad campuses and attracts over 300,000 candidates, attesting to the Institute’s excellence and world-renowned academic programs and infrastructure.

Eligibility Criteria

(i) B.E. Programmes and Other B.E. Environmental Engg & M.Sc. Programmes

• Students must pass the 12th standard board examination for a recognized central or state board, or hold a certificate of any equivalent board.
• Candidate must have a passing score in PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics), one language, and a subject.
• Candidates must attain :
  • 75% of the minimum aggregate of chemistry, physics, and mathematics.
  • However, the individual subjective score in chemistry, physics, and mathematics must be at least 60%.
• Both theory and practical components must be considered while calculating percentages.

(ii) B.Pharma & the B.E. Engineering programmes

• Students must have gone through the 10+2 pattern, and had a good score in 12th grade from a central, state, or other equivalent board, or institution.
• In the core subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics,One Language, and any one additional subject, students must have a passing score.
• The candidates must have secured:
  • A total of 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Mathematics
  • At least 60% marks in each of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Mathematics separately.
• Both theory and practical components must be considered while calculating percentages.
• * Students entering through the PCB stream at the 10+2 level should possess mathematics proficiency at the high school (Class 10) level.

(iii) For 2+2 Dual Degree under International Collaborative Programmes

CCandidates taking the BITSAT-2025 will also have the option to apply to select 2+2 Joint Collaborative Programmes which will be jointly offered by BITS Pilani, and well-known international Universities in countries such as Australia, USA, and France (i.e. RMIT University, Melbourne; Iowa State University, USA; University at Buffalo, USA; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA; Centrale Supélec Paris -France).

Under these programmes, students will study for the first two years at BITS Pilani, in India and the last two years at an associated university abroad. This will afford students world-class infrastructure support, international standards for education, and an opportunity to earn a dual degree.

(iv) For 3+2 Integrated Degree Programme

Students who are planning to participate in the BITSAT, 2025, are also eligible to be part of the 3+2 Degree Programme that is (BE), Bachelor of Engineering from BITSPilani, and (MBA), Master of Business Administration from BITSOM, from Mumbai.

With this, students will pursue the first three years at the STEM Campus of BITS Pilani and the last two years at the Mumbai campus. After graduation, students will receive two certificates, namely, B.E. and MCA regulations.

Additional Eligibility Conditions

Admissions to all the programmes are subject to the following conditions:

• Candidates who will (or have) appeared in the year 2025 for the 12th grade examination are permitted to sit for the BITSAT-2025 examination.
• If a candidate has taken more than one examination while in 12th grade (or its equivalent), only the last/existing performance will be considered.
• It is also required that candidates satisfy one of the following:
  • The candidate must have passed the 12th grade in 2024 or 2025, with PCM/Biology as compulsory subjects. The result must be released before the last admission date mentioned on the official BITSAT website.
  • Students who took the 12th-grade examination in 2024 will decide whether to make the necessary improvements in selected subjects. The upgrades must also have the results available before June 30, 2025.
  • Students who are reattempting the entire suite of subjects within the subject matter area for the 12th-grade examinations in 2024 or 2025 are eligible, provided the results have been published before June 30, 2025.
• In all of the above situations, the “Pass” status of the candidates must be applicable, even if they were required to retake exams to improve their results for the Grade 12 elective subjects.

Important Notes

1. Educational Background:
   To be eligible, candidates must have completed Physics, Chemistry, and either Mathematics or Biology (PCM/PCB) with a recognised Central, State, or other Board. The list of Boards recognised by the Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE) can be viewed here.

2. Eligibility for CAIE and IB Board Students:
   Candidates from the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) board must have completed the required subjects at the A Level. Students from the International Baccalaureate (IB) board must have completed the required subjects at the Higher Level.
3. Eligibility for M.Sc. Students for Dual Degree:
   Candidates who join the M.Sc. programme are eligible to apply for a Dual Degree in Engineering at BITS Pilani after completing the first year. This opportunity is assigned competitively based on their performance at BITS at the end of the first academic year.
4. Current Enrollment Restriction:
   - Candidates who are currently enrolled in any BITS program can’t register for BITSAT, 2025.
   - If the 12th passing year of the student is 2023, he is not eligible to appear in BITSAT in 2025.
5. Admission Merit:
   Admissions will be made purely on a merit basis. The candidate’s score in BITSAT 2025 will determine their merit position. However, admission is also subject to fulfilling the minimum marks requirement in the 12th examination, as mentioned in the eligibility guidelines.

Details of BITSAT-2025:

Computer-Based Online test’ means the candidate sits in front of a computer, and the questions are presented on the computer monitor. The candidate answers the questions on the computer by using the keyboard or mouse. Each computer is connected to a server, which prepares the question set and delivers it to the candidate on the computer. This differs from the traditional paper-pencil-based test, which is typically administered on a single day to all candidates.

Salient features of BITSAT-2025 are given below:

• A candidate may appear a maximum of two times in BITSAT-2025.
• The examination will be organised in two sets of dates, BITSAT Session-1 and BITSAT Session-2, separated by a few weeks. The candidate can choose the Centre, day, and time slot of their convenience to take the test, as described later in this document.
• A candidate may opt to appear twice, even at the time of the first application. Such a candidate will then choose one slot from the first set of dates and another from the second.
• A candidate may opt for ‘Session-1’ or ‘BOTH’.
• A candidate may also choose to appear a second time after the first appearance. To facilitate this process, there will be a period during which candidates who appeared in Session 1 but did not originally exercise the option to appear twice will be allowed to apply to appear a second time.
• Those who did not apply/appear in Session-1 can also apply to appear in Session-2 during the second application window, as mentioned in ‘Important dates and deadlines’ below.
• A candidate who opts to appear in only one session (Session 1 or Session 2) will pay a fee of Rs. 3,500 (for male candidates), Rs. 3,000 (for female candidates), and Rs. 3,000 (for transgender candidates).
• The application window will reopen for Session 2 after the first date of Session 1 of BITSAT.
• A candidate who chooses to appear twice will be required to pay a sum of Rs. 5,500 (for male candidates), Rs. 4,500 (for female candidates), and Rs. 4,500 (for transgender candidates).
• A candidate who opts to appear in only one session (Session 1 or Session 2) will pay a fee of Rs. 3,500 (for male candidates), Rs. 3,000 (for female candidates), and Rs. 3,000 (for transgender candidates).
• Suppose a candidate who opts to appear in Session-1 only chooses to apply separately to appear a second time (Session-2). In that case, such a candidate will have to pay an additional sum of Rs. 2,000 (for male candidates), Rs. 1,500 (for female candidates), and Rs. 1,500 (for transgender candidates).
• If a candidate chooses Dubai as a test centre for either Session 1 or Session 2, the application fee for male/female/transgender candidates will be Rs. 7150 (in INR). However, if the candidate wishes to appear for both sessions, the prescribed fee will be Rs. 9,150. If a candidate who initially opts to occur once (Session-1) at the Dubai Centre and then applies to appear a second time (Session-2), then such a candidate will have to pay an additional sum of Rs. 2000 (in INR).
• BITSAT’s application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable in any case.
• A candidate, who had already appeared in BITSAT twice, and is looking forward to admission in any initial degrees at BITS Pilani, scores from both attempts will be considered.
