IB Board Class 12 – Diploma Programme (DP Year 2)

Programme Overview

• Class 12 = DP Year 2, the final year of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
• Students continue with the same 6 subjects and 3 core components started in DP Year 1.
• Year 2 emphasizes completing assessments, internal projects, and final IB exams.

Subject Choices for Science Streams

Students continue their studies in the six subject groups, based on prior choices. Streams are not officially defined by IB, but medical and non-medical students typically choose subjects accordingly:

Subject Levels

• Higher Level (HL): ~240 teaching hours
• Standard Level (SL): ~150 teaching hours
• Students must take 3 subjects at HL and 3 at SL.

Core Components (Mandatory)

1. Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
   • Reflective essay and oral presentation on the nature of knowledge.
2. Extended Essay (EE)
   • 4,000-word independent research paper
   • Often science-based for medical/non-medical stream students
   • Includes subject-specific investigation and academic citation
3. Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)
   • Minimum 18-month engagement
   • Balanced participation in artistic, physical, and service-based experiences
   • CAS reflections must be documented and reviewed

Grading & Results

Diploma Award Criteria:

• Minimum 24 points overall
• At least 12 points from HL subjects
• No subject scored below 3
• Core components must be satisfactorily completed
• Academic honesty and internal deadlines must be followed

Internal Assessments (IAs)

Each subject includes a coursework component:

• Science: Lab reports or investigations
• Math: Exploration of a math concept
• Individuals & Societies: Field work or essays
• Language: Oral assessments or written tasks

IAs count for 20–30% of the final grade.

External Assessments (Final IB Exams)

• Held between April and May in Year 2 (Class 12)
• Include structured questions, data-response, and extended response essays
• Graded by external IB examiners worldwide
