For complete combustion of ethanol, C 2 H 5 OH( l ) + 3O 2 (g) ⎯→ 2CO 2 (g) + 3H 2 O( l ), the amount of heat produced as measured in bomb calorimeter, is 1364.47 kJ mol –1 at 25 ° C. Assuming ideality the Enthalpy of combustion, Δ C H, for the reaction will be : (R = 8.314 J mol –1 )
Text Solution
Verified by ExpertsThe correct answer is:
A
C 2 H 5 OH( λ ) + 3O 2 (g) ⎯→ 2CO 2 (g) + 3H 2 O( λ )
Δ U = – 1364.47 KJ/mol.
Δ H = Δ U + Δ n g RT
Δ n g = – 1
Δ H = – 1364.47 +
= – 1364.47 – 2.4776 = – 1366.94 KJ/mol.
