JEE Main 2027 Exam Overview

The Joint Entrance Examination Main, commonly known as JEE Main, is one of India’s leading engineering entrance examinations. It is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for students seeking admission to undergraduate engineering, architecture and planning programmes.

JEE Main Paper 1 is conducted for admission to B.E. and B.Tech programmes offered by National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), Centrally Funded Technical Institutions and other participating colleges. It also serves as the qualifying examination for students who wish to appear for JEE Advanced and compete for admission to the IITs.

JEE Main 2027 is expected to be conducted in two sessions:

  • Session 1: Expected in January 2027
  • Session 2: Expected in April 2027

Students may appear in one or both sessions. When a student appears in both sessions, the better NTA score is generally considered for the final ranking. This gives candidates another opportunity to improve their performance without waiting for the next academic year.

JEE Main 2027 Papers

JEE Main is expected to include the following papers:

Paper 1 – B.E./B.Tech

Paper 1 is intended for candidates seeking admission to undergraduate engineering and technology courses. It includes questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and is conducted entirely in computer-based mode.

Paper 2A – B.Arch

Paper 2A is designed for students applying to Bachelor of Architecture programmes. It includes Mathematics, an Aptitude Test and a Drawing Test. Mathematics and Aptitude are computer-based, while the Drawing Test is conducted offline on a drawing sheet.

Paper 2B – B.Planning

Paper 2B is meant for admission to Bachelor of Planning programmes. It includes Mathematics, an Aptitude Test and Planning-Based Questions and is conducted in computer-based mode.

JEE Main 2027 Important Dates

The National Testing Agency has not yet announced the official schedule for JEE Main 2027. Based on the previous examination cycle, Session 1 is expected to be held in January 2027, while Session 2 is expected to take place in April 2027.

JEE Main 2027 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

The final JEE Main 2027 examination pattern will be announced in the official Information Bulletin. Unless the NTA introduces a change, Paper 1 is expected to follow the latest format of 75 questions for a total of 300 marks.

Understanding the Two Sections

Each subject is divided into two parts.

Section A: Multiple-Choice Questions

Section A contains 20 multiple-choice questions in each subject. Every question provides answer options, and the candidate must select the most appropriate answer.

Section B: Numerical-Value Questions

Section B contains five numerical-value questions in each subject. Candidates must calculate the answer and enter the required numerical value using the on-screen keypad.

Candidates should read the official instructions carefully because NTA may specify how numerical answers must be entered or rounded.
