A class is to study electrical circuits. The laboratory portion is to be open-ended so that each pair of students does an experiment on their own, at their own pace. They are given resistors, batteries, voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, capacitors, and inductance coils; as well as suitable general power supplies and function generators. The lecture portion covers the general theory including Ohm’s law and Kirchhoff’s laws for circuits, the operating properties of oscilloscopes, alternating current circuits (including RC, LC, and RLC series circuits), and the theory of induced emf’s using Faraday’s law.
(i) A 4-ohm resistor, a 3-millihenry inductor, and a 2-microfarad capacitor are connected into a series RLC circuit. An AC sinusoidal signal at the exact frequency of resonance for the above circuit is applied by a function generator (so that a maximum current results in the circuit). What is the impedance (Z) of this circuit at the resonant frequency?
