Sol. Here Z 1 = 6.25 + j • 1.25

Z 2 = 5 + j • 0, Z 3 = 5 – jX C

Since Z 2 || Z 3 , ∴ Z 23 =

∴ Z 23 = = – j

Now Z = Z 1 + Z 23 = 6.25 + j × 1.25 + – j

= – j

Since total current of the circuit is in phase with the total voltage, therefore coefficient of j is zero [i.e., power factor should be unity].

= 0

or X C = 10 Ω

= = 10

C = = 318 µF

Substituting the value of X C , we get

Z = 10

∴ Current in the circuit = = 10 A

and power in the circuit = i 2 R = 1000 W
