Force on m 1 and m 2 due to electric field = Q 1 E and Q 2 E downward Let acceleration of both masses is ‘a’ as shown in figure:

∴ By F.B.D of m 2 :

m 2 g + Q 2 E – T = m 2 a ....

By F.B.D of m 1 :

By both equations:

and by putting m 1 = 2m, m 2 = 3m and Q 1 = Q 2 we get a = 2m/sec 2
