Physics Electromagnetic Induction All Topic Question for Revision Test MCQ (Single Correct)

The figure shows certain wire segments joined together to form a coplanar loop. The loop is placed in a perpendicular magnetic field in the direction going into the plane of the figure. The magnitude of the field increases with time, I 1 and I 2 are the currents in the segments ab and cd. Then,

A

B

C
I 1 is in the direction ba and I 2 is in the direction cd
D
I 1 is in the direction ab and I 2 is in the direction dc

The correct answer is:
D

The magnetic field passing from the closed loop is increasing. Therefore, from Lenz's law, induced current will produce upward magnetic field. Hence, induced current is anti-clockwise, i.e. I 1 is in the direction and I 2 is in the direction dc.
