Physics Wave and Sound Speed,Velocity of the Waves and Frequence Numeric Response
Published on: September 12, 2026

Resonance is a phenomenon in which when natural frequency of a body matches with the external frequency, the body starts vibrating with greater amplitude. Such resonance phenomenon is observed during earth quakes when natural frequency of building matches the frequency of the shock resulting in collapse of buildings. An engineer decides to bring down a wall using sound waves. He realizes that the wall has a resonance frequency of 600Hz. But he finds that the devices he has, can not generate that frequency. He further calculates and finds that if the source is attached to a car and if it travels with a speed of 30m/s towards the wall then it can generate the resonant frequency (velocity of sound in air is 346 m/s)

(i) What is the frequency emitted by the source?

A
500 Hz The wall will break down in present situation The engineer in the car observes lesser frequency than the man
B
536 Hz The wall will break down, if speed of the car is decreased The engineer in the car observes higher frequency than the man
C
548 Hz The wall will break only, if the speed of the car is increased The engineer in the car and man observe the same frequency
D
623 Hz (ii) The assistants of the engineer standing behind the car, to monitor the process observe a difference of two frequencies (one direct and one reflected) of 100Hz. Then what will they conclude? The device can have different frequency in this case: The wall will break only, if the car is stopped (iii) A man was standing on the other side of the wall, just in the line of motion of the car. As soon as the wall breaks down Nothing can be said unless their separation is know
