Physics Electrostatics Potential & Capacitance Electric Potential and Potential Difference MCQ (Single Correct)

The electric potential varies in space according to the relation: V = 3x + 4y. A particle of mass
10 Kg starts from rest from point (2, 3.2) under the influence of this field. Find the speed in m/s of the particle when it crosses the x-axis. The charge on the particle is +1C. Assume V and (x, y) are in S.I. units.

The correct answer is:
CHECK THE SOLUTION.

(2)

Sol. Given, V = 3x + 4y

So, = –

Or = – (3 + 4 )

So, force on particle = q = – (3 + 4 ) × 1 N

and acceleration of particle = m/s 2

Now, a x = – 0.3 m/s 2 and a y = – 0.4 m/s 2

At x - axis y = 0

So, by (s = ut + at 2 ) in y direction:

– 3.2 = – × × t 2 ⇒ t = 4 sec.

Now, velocity at 4 sec. ⇒ v x = × 4 = – 1.2 m/sec

⇒ v y = × 4 = – 1.6 m/sec

So, velocity vector = – 1.2 – 1.6
