Physics Wave and Sound General MCQ (Single Correct)

Two coherent sources are placed at the corners of a rectangular track of sides 3 m & 4 m. The source S 1 lags S 2 by phase angle π A detector is moved along path ABC. Then find:

The ratio of total number of minima detected on line AB to the total number of minima on line BC is (in lowest form). Find P.

[Velocity of sound = 330 m/s; Frequency of sources S 1 and S 2 = 165 Hz]

The correct answer is:
CHECK THE SOLUTION

(6)

Phase angle for S 1 , θ 1 = (ωt – kx 1 ) and for S 2 , θ 2 = (ωt – kx 2 + π)

At A phase difference is 4π and at B it is zero so minima in between these will be at π & 3π phase difference so total 2 minima.

At C phase difference is 6π so - between B & C there will be minima at 1π, 3π & 5π phase difference total 3 minima ratio = 2 : 3
