Sol. For maximum compression, velocity of each block is same.

By momentum conservation.

1 × 2 = 1 × v + 1 × v

v = 1 m/s

By energy conservation.

× 1 × 2 2 = × 1 × (1) 2 + × 1 × (1) 2 + kx 2

x = 0.2 m

= 2/10 m

X = 2m
