The two streams strike at the same point on the ground,

⇒ ⇒ v 1 t 1 = v 2 t 2 …(1)

where v 1 = velocity of efflux at 1 = and v 2 = velocity

of the efflux at 2

Putting these values in equation (1), we obtain,

(H – h 1 ) h 1 = (H – h 2 ) h 2 ⇒ ⇒ [H-(h 1 + h 2 )] [h 1 – h 2 ] = 0

⇒ ⇒ H = h 1 + h 2 is irrelevant because the holes are at two

different heights, therefore h 1 = h 2 ⇒ ⇒ (h 1 /h 2 ) = 1
